Mountain Bluebird at Fish Creek Provincial Park

Mountain Bluebird at Fish Creek Provincial Park

I was stumped on the I.D., I knew it was a bluebird but what species of bluebird, a Mountain Bluebird or a Western Bluebird? It turns this little bluebird is a first year male Mountain Bluebird, thanks Gus for straightening that out for me and a few other photogs!
It was a dull overcast morning, or even light morning with 6″ of fresh snow on the ground, with this much snow it can only mean one thing, spring! I found this guy in Fish Creek Provincial ParkCalgary.

Bluebird’s likes eating bugs, but with all this fresh snow I would think it would be difficult to find any.

A few hours of trudging through the snow paid off today with my frst of the year mountain bluebird.
