No, that beast on the left looking over the branches and clinging to the bark of the tree is not a samsquanch, a.k.a. bigfoot or sasquatch, it is a tree eating porcupine, in this case a very cute baby porcupine with a serious hairdo!
I also ran into mom (ouch), or it could have been dad porcupine eating some buds off a tree close by.
All these photos are from an quick evening outing on May the 2nd, wow do I have to catch up and start updating more often (wood duck series coming soon!).

Birds & Beasts seen that evening include, wood ducks, goldeneye ducks, my buddy crusty tail the coyote, another solitary sandpiper and an adult male coopers hawk that gave me a hard time iding..
At first I thought this accipiter to be a sharp-shinned hawk, but after further investigation (sending photo to hawking friends) it was confirmed to be an adult male coopers hawk on the hunt.

A lucky grab was this flight photo of a male wood duck cruising low over the water (love these colourful ducks!)

And a predator I see regularly, old crusty tail the coyote. I love seeing this male coyote but this encounter was to quick and I only got a few photos of him. I have not seen the female coyote in a few weeks, no doubt (hopefully) she is with pups.
