Review Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR Snow Storm Snowy Owls Lens Review

My Review – My first day out testing my new Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR (vibration reduction) on snowy owls in flight just west of Calgary, Alberta. It was dark, total overcast, snowing like crazy and high winds that made matters worse, did I mention cold! But the nikkor 300mm f/2.8 VR tracked perfectly, locked on target even when the owl was just a blur behind blowing snow!
Was not the best conditions for a test review on the 300mm 2.8 VR, or maybe it was perfect conditions for a test review? Either way, my in focus shots percentage went WAY UP as the focus speed on the 300mm VR is amazing. I shoot hand held and found this nikon lens easy to hand hold, the VR in normal mode worked like a charm. The tracking and focus speed out did my 300mm f/4 Nikon lens, hard to believe as its an amazing lens. 90% of the images here on my blog and my main Calgary photographer site are shot using the f/4 lens. Everything after this post will be photographed with my new Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR and hopefully in some good light very soon :)

My new Nikon 300mm 2.8 works great with tele-converters, and the 1.4 TC gives me an easy to carry and deadly sharp 420mm, add the 1.7 on the 300mm and I am holding over 500mm at about 2/3 the weight! This is a sharp, fast focusing lens that is worth every penny! Cant wait to try the new nikon 2x TC on this large prime chunk of glass.
