These large owls are hard to photograph in-flight because they are usually in dense forested areas with low light, or no light so shutter speeds are low and a steady camera pan is a must.]]></description>

I did finally get out for some photo work yesterday and again late this afternoon. Originally looking for snowy owls to photograph, but instead found this awesome female juvenile rough-legged hawk. I did see 4 snowy owls over the last few days and two rough-legged hawks, one of the owls was a pure white adult male bird but I could not get close enough for photos.. I took over 200 photos of rough-legged hawks in the last few days and will post more photos ASAP...]]></description>

My first test/play with the 300mm VR was in total overcast, very dull light and a fast moving object. These photos are in good light, and still a fast moving object. The VR works great, especially when panning a bird in flight.]]></description>

Perfect review conditions, It was dark, total overcast, snowing like crazy and high winds that made matters worse, did I mention cold!
