This great horned owl was photographed last Sunday just south of Calgary Alberta. I was actually looking for rough-legged hawks and came across this owl hiding in a tree. Well, he thought he was hidden but with the leaves on the trees, he stood out like a sore thumb! This was a first year great horned owl.
Oh yeah, I also did find a rough-legged hawk about 50 yards from the owl.

Shot this with my Rolleiflex and Kodak Portra 400 film. Nothing like medium format for bokeh goodness! Leica M9 with a few lenses.
These buildings are backlit but the building across the street from them bounced some cool light reflections onto the street and the pub. Must get a beer there soon..

Photographed a wild saw-whet owl today ( a tiny owl) with the Leica M9 and the 90mm f/2 Summicron lens, shot wide open as the light was fading fast.

Shot wide open, I think it passed, not only in the bokeh department but the sharpness wide open at f/2.5 is amazing :)
